About Us
How you can help
Donations are always needed. Our wish list always includes
halters, lead ropes, tack, dewormer, hay, grain, pipe panels,
fencing, materials for shelters, vet supplies, and of course,
cash.

You can also volunteer. We need foster homes,
transporters, volunteers for events, and people to give our
rescue horses some love!

SPECIAL THANKS

We would like to give special thanks to the people that make
this rescue possible.

Nicole Fowler ~ Our trainer

Nicki has been our trainer for several years and we couldn't
thank her enough. She gives us countless insight on the
horses, and best of all, she is willing to ride anything!!! Nicki
is an amazing trainer, specializing in Jumping.

Nicki can be reached at 916-300-9166

Patrick McKinzey ~ Our Farrier

Patrick is an amazingly patient person. He does a fabulous
job with all the rescue horses, and is very kind and patient
with our more challenging horses. Our horses love him, and
we couldn't ask for a better farrier.

Patrick can be reached at 916-912-0823

Dr Bravos ~ Our Vet

Dr. Bravos has been with us since the purchase of our first
horse. He is a truly amazing person, and  was the vet who
cared for Jezzabelle, and put her to rest. We cannot say
enough about him. He has recently gone out on his own and
has created Mill Station Veterinary Service.

Jezzebelle's Story

The idea for our rescue started with the purchase of my first horse, Jezzebelle. When my sister
and I decided to purchase horses, I knew I wanted to rescue a horse. I had adopted all my other
pets through rescues, and I had the image in my mind of me rescuing this horse from a horrible
situation and bringing her into my wonderful, loving home and us riding off into the sunset
together happily ever after….needless to say, that is not what happened.
I set out to find the horse of my dreams, and saw an add for a rescued Friesian cross mare for
$600.00. I called immediately and set and appointment for my sister and I to come meet her.  I
informed the “rescue owner” that I was looking for a sound, beginner trail horse and she said
this was the horse for me. Upon arriving, she told us the “story” of this mare. She had acquired
her from someone in the Bay Area, and she was starved and in bad shape. The “rescue owner”
raised Friesians and took her and was trying to put weight on her and had her vetted and her
feet done. She said the mare was sound and was about 16 years old and great on trail. I was
introduced to the mare. She was so thin you could see every bone in her body, but she was
beautiful. She was black with a small white star, and all I could think of was Black Beauty. I knew
she would be mine.
I paid for the mare, and made agreements to have her delivered the following week.
We named her Jezzebelle.
“Jezzie” was delivered on a Thursday morning to her new home, along with my sister’s new
gelding (not a rescue) we loved all over them and promised to come back on the weekend.
On Saturday, we pulled them both out and I noticed Jezzie was limping severely. I immediately
called the “rescue owner” and she said to give it a few days, she had just had her feet trimmed
and she was probably sore. I was not comfortable with this answer, so I called my vet….and got
the worst news I could imagine.
Jezzie was no where near 16, more like 25, and was also no where near sound, she had high
and low ringbone, very bad arthritis, had foundered, and had cushings…..needless to say, we
would not be riding off into the sunset, or riding at all.
I was devastated, I called the “rescue owner” and expected her to be as shocked as I was and
immediately take the mare back, but I couldn’t be more wrong. I had been scammed. The
“rescue owner” basically said nothing and I was stuck with her.
Upon much research on my end, I found out the truth about the mare I purchased. The “rescue
owner” was no rescue and had purchased the mare to breed. When she found out she was not
able to be bred (probably due to her age) she let her starve out in pasture…then decided to sell
her as a rescue, knowing her true age and all her issues. I was one of the “lucky” ones..if you
can call it that. I sued her and won, but I only won my initial $600.00 back.
However all things happen for a reason, I found this mare and did take her from a horrible
situation, and brought her into my wonderful, loving home. We spent thousands of dollars to
make her as comfortable as possible. She became the matriarch of her herd, living her life as
the boss mare in our 10 acre pasture, and being spoiled rotten.

Jezzebelle was put to rest on a nice fall night last November, after colicking. The whole herd
stood with us, as we tearfully said our goodbyes to this amazing horse. My sister's gelding let
out a loud whinny when she went down. He has not been the same since she passed away. I
know people say horses do not mourn, but I believe they are incorrect, Charlie mourned with
us at the loss of our best friend.
Jezzebelle was my first horse, and though we could not ride off into the sunset together, what
she gave me was so much more.
And this rescue is dedicated to her.
Our mission is to rescue horses that still have a serviceable life and match them with the
proper, forever homes. We will be HONEST, and do our very best to make sure the horse and
the new owner will be a lifetime fit.
Our goal is to take horses from horrible situations, bring them into our wonderful, loving home,
rehabilitate them, and match them with the right owners and watch them ride off into the
sunset, happily ever after.

We hope you find the horse of your dreams here.

Warm Regards,

Jessica, Jenni, Alan and Jezzebelle
